New friends with an old friend

This past Friday I made my annual pilgrimage to Love Field here in Dallas to see the visiting Collings Foundation War Birds,
specifically the B-24. Most know I am very fond of this War Bird because it is the plane that my Dad piloted during WWII.
Well, this day I got to make 2 new friends by helping this WWII Vet and his son into the cockpit of the beloved B-24.
You could feel the pride and sorrow in this cockpit…very powerful moments.

Run, Doc, Run

Please give some positive vibes your way to London Tonight, as a friend will run in the 4 x 100 relays…
Darvis “Doc” Patton, one of the good guys in sport will in most likelihood run his last Olympic race tonight.
Doc did not qualify for the 100m or 200m this year, but did make the relay team.
Here is a 30 sec film I made on Doc last year…he runs fast!

Father’s Day

Dad at 88 years.
I shot this with Dad’s old Graflex B!
I modified it for a medium format Polaroid back.
All of those years and the shutter is still accurate.
Somewhat like my Dad…

my birthday, my treat

Since I am back in my boyhood home helping my Dad recover,
I gave myself the best treat for my birthday.
Young’s Frozen Custard.
Only one, next to the dairy farm.
Simply the best!

Some times it takes patience

My 86 year old father was published yesterday in a German newspaper.
That’s right my Dad is now a internally published war photographer.
It just took 66 years.
Dad took this image of the 2 planes low over the German country side
while piloting his B-24 Bomber on this fateful day of Operation Varsity, March 24, 1945.

What once was, ain’t no more…

Today ends the year…
and the last Kodachrome lab closes.
The best film EVER, is gone.
I was lucky to come along when KR64 was a wonderful film.
Even shot some for assignments when I was young and starting out.
To all things possible in the new year!

What once was, ain’t no more…
